New Convention Housing Policy: In an effort to prevent overbooking by individuals and groups, the convention has implemented a new housing policy. Beginning in 2013, all reservations will be charged a non-refundable deposit of the first night’s room and tax at the time of booking. This deposit is non-refundable, but it is transferable. The NAFWB website will provide a method of posting available rooms so that individuals can find rooms as well as attempt to transfer rooms to others.

Convention Ushering

Master’s Men will once again be responsible for coordinating ushers for the National Convention.

Ushers will receive the offering during service times, work during business sessions, and help with security. If you would can help, email masters@nafwb.org.

There will be an orientation meeting Sunday afternoon, July 21, at 5:00 p.m. in the Tampa Convention Center.

Justice Named 2013 Convention Music Coordinator

Kevin Justice, associate pastor of worship and Christian education at Unity Free Will Baptist Church, Greenville, North Carolina, has been named music coordinator for the 2013 convention in Tampa, Florida. He was elected to the Music Commission in 2012. Justice succeeds Chris Truett, who served as coordinator for nine years. Chris stepped down from his role to focus on new responsibilities as senior pastor at Bethel Free Will Baptist Church, Kinston, North Carolina.

Chris Truett served as convention orchestra director from 1996-2003. In 2004, he became the Convention Music Coordinator and chairman of the Music Commission. Bethel Free Will Baptist Church called him as their senior pastor January 27.

Praise the Lord for all the sacrificial gifts both great and small by so many…individuals and churches, companies and friends!!!!

As a result, a 40 foot cargo container is officially on its way to the Philippines with generators, power tools, welders, hand tools, chainsaws, scaffolding, concrete working tools, gas powered concrete mixers, ladders, and much, much more!

A special thanks to all the donations that came in from our General Baptist Community as well as many from the Free Will Baptist Denomination. May God return to you 10 fold for all that you have done in the encouragement and rebuilding of churches and homes in the Philippines!

Free Will Baptists to Partner With General Baptists in Disaster Relief

Super typhoon Pablo hit the southern Philippine island of Mindanao during the first week of December. The strongest tropical cyclone to hit the island in decades, the storm left widespread destruction throughout the region. Thirty provinces and cities remain without power, and the number of homes destroyed is staggering. Philippine news outlets estimate that millions of people continue to struggle for food and shelter.

General Baptists, a sister denomination, has a significant ministry in the Philippines including a Bible College, Bible institute, and hundreds of churches. According to Sean Warren, director of General Baptist International Ministries (and former Free Will Baptist missionary to France), Typhoon Pablo destroyed at least 55 General Baptist churches—nearly 20% of the ministry there. Over 1,428 families directly affiliated with this ministry have been rendered homeless.

“Free Will Baptists,” said Executive Secretary Keith Burden, “have a timely opportunity to reach out to brothers and sisters in Christ. During this Christmas season of giving, we can partner with General Baptist Churches to show the love of Christ in a tangible way.”

GIVE GIFTS-IN-KIND: General Baptist International Ministries will ship a cargo container to the Philippines on January 9, 2013. The office is accepting donations of new or gently used items.

PRAY: Pray for the families of more than a thousand people confirmed dead, the 900+ who are still missing, the hundreds of thousands who are displaced, those who have lost their entire livelihood, and for those working in relief efforts.

GO: General Baptist International Ministries is scheduling four teams to go and assist with disaster relief. Trip dates are January 10-19 (medical); January 16-25 (medical); February 16-24 (medical); and February 16-24 (construction).
